After complications with delayed flights, early flights, dashes through airports & interminable layovers everyone arrived more or less right on time in Dubrovnik this afternoon! After meeting at the airport we transferred the 17 or so miles to Dubrovnik by car or bus & checked-in to our first hotel, the well-located Hotel Lero.
After an hour or so to freshen-up we met in the hotel lobby to head into town, our driver Damir dropping us right outside Pile Gate, the magnificent entrance to the Old Town & our first taste of Dubrovnik.
Everyone was suitably impressed by the beautiful Old Town, a maze of narrow alleys, a wide strolling street, & little corners & square. A short walk took us up a grand staircase to a quiet square overlooked by a church, & on the opposite side our fantastic restaurant, Kopun (capon).
Dinner this evening was the excellent - we enjoyed a superb three course menu of traditional Croatian dishes, some dating back to the 16th century, accompanied by excellent local wines.
A short walk back through the Pile Gate to our waiting bus & we were whisked back to our hotel, all very tired but having had a great start to our Croatian exploration.
